TUTOR ORIENTATION: Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 10 am to 12:30 pm
Help an adult learn to read, speak English, or get their GED with one-on-one tutoring in local libraries. You can make a difference in a person’s life and in yours, too. Learn what you need to get started as a volunteer tutor for Turning Pages. Turning Pages will hold a Tutor Orientation session on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 10-12:30 at our central location in the First Christian Church, 2062 Beltline Boulevard (park in the lower church parking lot across the street from ACE Hardware and Casa-Linda Restaurant). Turning Pages looks forward to having you on our team of volunteers, our lifeblood, as we help adult learners turn the page to their own possibilities with one-on-one and small group literacy tutoring. The session is recommended for all prospective volunteers who would like to help adults improve their literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking, computer skills, ESL–English as a Second Language, and GED prep). The session is free. Here’s your opportunity to help an adult turn the pages to their own opportunities.
As a volunteer tutor you will be matched with an adult learner, meeting twice a week for an hour and a half at a private space provided by a local library. You will be helping the learner improve his or her reading, writing, math, or computer skills or prepare for the GED. Turning Pages provides all materials free. The Orientation will give you valuable information on working with adult learners as well as providing some practical tools you can use with your learner now.
